Why did most of the 316L MIM components show magnetic property? Because there is a large amount of ferrite inside!
Water atomized powders, such as 316L, 304L, and 17-4PH, are popularly used in the MIM industry. However, the oxygen content of these materials was very high such as a level of 3600ppm, and it was reduced to about 2500ppm after sintering. Final oxide inside the component was estimated to reach up to 0.5~1wt%, and porous level at 1.5~2.5v%. These features will be unacceptable if it was a usual forged or casted material.
Huijin successfully decreases the oxygen contented of the water atomized MIM powders down to 2500~3000ppm, 1/5~1/3 is decreased.
